ONCE UPON A TIME... Hamilton only had boring, run of the mill, craft markets only lil ol church ladies would wanna go to. One day in the spring of 2014, intrepid local man-about-town and punk rock event organizer Benjamin Rispin of Burly Calling, Misfit Island and Puff Digital, decided that the city needed a new spot in which cool vendors from all over the city could hawk their wares, so he teamed up with the amazing owner of the local pop/punk shop Compilation, Jacquie Malley, and the hottest independent live music venue in the neighbourhood, Absinthe Hamilton, to create one of the most kick-ass markets in Southern Ontario - and the very first Canadian Punk Rock Flea was born. The team then eventually expanded to include Julie Fazooli [Abominable Ink] who's taken over the role as lead coordinator, Lee McPherson [Bones Below], and most recently, Dea Restivo [Wool N’ Stone], in order to keep up with the continuing success and increasing magnitude - and now runs quarterly every year. Chapters now exist all across Canada from coast to coast and the US, and continue to pop up everywhere around the globe.
Following in the tradition of the Great North American Punk Rock Flea, the market embodies the true DIY punk ethos, as well as offering up great vintage finds, clothing, records, collectibles, and so much more. Since then, the market has grown exponentially, with many different types of vendors added, artists, musicians, games and activities for the kids, great food by local chefs, fundraising auctions for local charities, psychic readings, haircuts, prizes to be won, goodie bags for the first people through the door - the list goes on. We like to keep people on their toes with fresh, new ideas! We strive to keep each show more enticing than the last, with fun themed events (like beach parties, circus extravaganzas, Hot Rod BBQs), and a rotating selection of hand-picked vendors from all over Southern Ontario, so you’ll rarely experience the same thing twice!
Bring grandma - bring the kids - bring the pooch - EVERYONE IS ALWAYS WELCOME AT THE PUNK ROCK FLEA! HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
